For the 28th edition this year, in addition to the concerts will be staging the ‘Opera by Gaetano Donizetti’s Don Pasquale under the direction of Antonello Madau Diaz, to be held 8 to 14 August 2010 at the garden of the Church of St. Francis of Preggio.
” The Don Pasquale is a comic opera in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti.
The booklet, signed by Michael Accursi, is actually by the same Donizetti and Giovanni Ruffini and is closely linked with the playful drama of Angel Rings Ser Marcantonio, music by Stefano Pavesi in 1810.
The first performance took place at the Théâtre-Italien in Paris, January 3, 1843 with an exceptional cast consists of Giulia Grisi (Norina), Luigi Lablache (Don Pasquale), Antonio Tamburini (Malatesta) and Mario (Ernesto).
Donizetti, now at the height of fame (he had already composed his most famous works, includingAnne Boleyn, The Elixir of Love, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Favorite e La fille du régiment), decided to composeDon Pasquale after reading random old libretto by Angelo Anelli. The story goes that the work was composed in just eleven days, but it is likely that during this period were made “only” the vocal lines and orchestration has instead requested more time ”
