HOLY THORN

Every year, on Tuesdays of Easter, in the small medieval village of Preggio, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Thorn, a celebration that the whole community worships Preggio, since 1200, to honor this wonderful relic.

This relic was given according to tradition, by a Franciscan friar, a few years after the founding of the Order of Friars of San Francesco d ‘Assisi. This friar came from a convent near San Feliciano sul Trasimeno and had come to pray in the Church of Preggio and had with him the Holy Thorn. While he was out of the Church to return to his convent, as chronicles tell of the time, “he found himself with the sight as if it were totally obscured now blind, and you feel you put the relic on ‘Regains altar and suddenly the view, understood immediately that it was a divine will, and that this gift should be entrusted to this community, ” in conclusion, the Holy Thorn was a Preggio, and was assigned to the” Brotherhood of the Holy Thorn “. The relic is still enclosed in a reliquary of gold and silver, where you need to open 7 keys, which are assigned, by lottery, to 7 families preggesi every Easter Tuesday opened the showcase, and where no one is unable to open the tabernacle, and once removed from the tabernacle, the Holy Relic was exhibited for the veneration of the faithful.
